“The Jersey - America’s Creamline Cow” framed pictured - donated by Dave Rama from The Cattle Exchange . This lot of truly iconic! Framed 33x23 portrait of Snowdrop Notes from Norman & Pete: “Wonderful Snowdrop was owned by the Eustis family in Cincinnati. In 1985, I was privileged to work with Francis Eustis when he sculpted the ideal Jersey cow models, originally sold as a signed and numbered limited edition of 200. Francis was a pretty blunt guy and was initially very reluctant to take the job, partly because of his distrust of breed associations and their boards. He had previously done a Holstein model and was furious about how they had mass produced it resulting in severe distortion. Another example was this painting. He was a great admirer of it and told me that it was almost rejected by the AJCC board because some on the board objected to the inclusion of the ducks. 45 years later, he was still mad about it. Francis used some colorful words to describe his view of boards of directors and one of his conditions was his work would not have to be subjected to a board process.”

Bert was on sale staff that day along with icons R. Peter Heffering, Bob Shore, Harry Wilcox, Sonny Bartel, Horace Backus, C.M. Bottema Jr., Thomas E. Hayes and Senator Harry Hayes. At this sale, Lot #1 was Romandale Telstar Brenda that sold for $66,000 and Lot #4 was her son by ABC Reflection Sovereign who broke a world record that day, selling for $400,000 to Japan. This catalog is in mint condition and opens with 20 pages of Romandale Farms history, owned by George & Steve Roman.
